The Dayspring
The Light that shines on darkness and to those in the shadow of death

Passion begets perseverance, and perseverance is the key to success. Writing is my passion.
Though I lack professional qualifications, I have gained enormous experience over the years through sheer desire and determination. When I realized my love for creative writing many years ago, I had no idea how to format dialogue and didn’t know much about the basic rules of writing. I joined several writing forums and critique circles where I’d submit my work for feedback from others. I discovered and developed a voice as a writer, and learned about forms of writing and a variety of techniques I then used to strengthen my writing style.
Over time my writing improved, and I succeeded in writing and self-publishing my first novel in 2018. I am still writing, and so far, I’ve published eight other novels as part of a series, The Lost Archangels. The series is on sale on Amazon and has gained a substantial amount of 4/5 star reviews.
As a self-published author, I hold firm to the saying, “experience is the best teacher.” I’ve learnt most of what I know about writing through experience, mistakes and corrections. Experience, however, is not enough since it comes with limitations based on environment, culture, and the level of skill of those we interact with. This course grants me the opportunity to learn from professionals and enlighten me to another level of creative writing that I may not have been able to realise on my own.
I am applying for this creative writing course not only because I’m passionate about writing, but also because I recognize the value of formal education. At the small online-company that I work, I’ve been offered a partnership deal to become one of their team members in their Publishing company. One of their requirements was that I at least obtain a formal qualification. I’m hoping, on top of the formal qualifications I will gain from this course, I can also enhance my writing skills and further develop my storytelling abilities especially with regard to different genres and cultures.
Being a mature student and a self-published author, I can contribute to this course through my life and writing experiences. I have a deeper understanding of the tremendous fulfilment that comes through connecting with readers and receiving feedback. On top of that, I especially know the responsibilities we carry as authors. I’ve had a couple of readers write to me telling me how I save their lives somehow through reading my work. I had no idea a story could do that, but it also dawned on me that we, as writers, we should always be careful about our art because what we write matters. I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience and also learn from others.
Overall, my passion for writing is immeasurable. I’m thrilled at the chance of increasing my knowledge and finally gaining a formal qualification in creative writing.
